HERMAN (HER-MAN) Market is a new and gender-neutral collection by Canadian artist and designer, Raif Adelberg.
At the forefront of Vancouver’s streetwear and fashion scene, Raif is best known for his “Fuck I Love You Series”, his longtime relationship with Stussy Tribe, retail store Richard Kidd, and his own private collection.
Mixing up exquisite fabrics and high-end cuts with an original and authentic attitude, HERMAN offers pieces that are distinct and unique. Produced exclusively in Vancouver, the collection is made with carefully selected fabrics and trims, using hand spun, hand knit wools and cashmere, and finest cottons.
Inspired by Raif’s time spent in Los Angeles during the late 80’s and 90’s, HERMAN Market embodies the surf, skate and music scene of those eras. “The eighties and nineties were influential years in my life, ”He explains. “It’s the fluidity of the brand, style, attitude and sex appeal that came out of those years. Fashion was customized and individual – you either had style or you didn’t.”
Raif designs with the idea of creating something truly authentic for someone who knows how to wear it. “I love the idea of picturing a woman who has a certain sense of sophistication, confidence, but is still a bit rough around the edges. She has a presence absent of ego.”
“HERMAN is an experience, an accessory for those with a true sense of style. I want to see people create. It’s more about style and less about the clothing.”
HERMAN Market and Raif Adelberg have been worn by stars including Kendall Jenner, Future, Rihanna, Jared Leto and more.
“Fashion is just another accessory for someone who has great style”.
Raif Adelberg’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection for HERMAN was designed with that guy in mind. The strength comes from who wears the clothes and Raif trusts his consumer.
Using personal drawings, designs from his own tattoos and references from his extensive career, Raif draws from the past and constructs appliques of artwork and stamp/embroider them throughout the collection. The message is gallant and robust much like him as he aims to inspire and be inspired.
The collection includes HERMAN’s signature reworked denim jackets with contrast of patterns from animal prints to bleach washes, continuing the “what’s new is old and what’s old is new” narrative of the brand. This season, the designer added a strong group of Japanese linen pieces declined in cream, light blue, navy pinstripe and military green adorning the designer’s tattoo designs.
HERMAN is sold at 35 key retailers worldwide including Barney’s NY, Hirshleifers, Boon the Shop and Ssence.
