Founded by designer Alix Verley Pietrafesa, ALIX OF BOHEMIA is a celebration of craftsmanship, creativity, and heritage. The journey began with a collection of vintage textiles and a spontaneous purchase of a sewing machine during Alix's art history studies in Scotland. Inspired by the women in her family, the rebellious spirit of the 1970s, and the Bohemians of post-war Paris, Alix created original, handmade garments that reflected her unique vision.

Formally launched in London in 2012, ALIX OF BOHEMIA gained immediate traction as admirers began purchasing her jackets directly off her back. Over the next six years, Alix honed her craft, designing and tailoring over 2,500 bespoke, one-of-a-kind pieces by hand. X In 2018, staying true to her hand-focused philosophy, Alix began designing seasonal collections that honor traditional production techniques. Each piece showcases hand embroidery, hand weaving, hand quilting, and hand printing, with artisans from India to Guatemala, Italy to the United States contributing to the collections. Alix only uses natural fibers, so garments are naturally biodegradable and improve over time, with every wear and every wash, much like a pair of well-loved jeans.

Born in New York to a family of textile makers and artists, Alix now runs ALIX OF BOHEMIA alongside her partner, Sebastian. Together, they design each collection in their New York studio, placing a strong emphasis on creativity and artisanal hand processes. Nocturne Doré is a study in ornamentation and contrast, drawing on the gilded world of Gustav Klimt while remaining rooted in the brand’s signature 1970s rock-and-roll edge.

Gold and glass beading evoke the opulence of Byzantine mosaics, while bold black-and-white graphics nod to Klimt’s play with contrast and pattern. Bird and horse motifs—symbols of freedom and femininity—run through the collection, alongside floral elements subtly influenced by Art Nouveau.

The title, meaning “Golden Nocturne,” speaks to the collection’s luminous, textural richness, balanced by a darker, more graphic sensibility. Rather than leaning into delicacy or romance, Nocturne Doré tempers its ornamentation with a sense of attitude and irreverence, staying true to the spirit of the 1970s.
