Founded by designer Alix Verley Pietrafesa, ALIX OF BOHEMIA is a celebration of craftsmanship, creativity, and heritage. The journey began with a collection of vintage textiles and a spontaneous purchase of a sewing machine during Alix's art history studies in Scotland. Inspired by the women in her family, the rebellious spirit of the 1970s, and the Bohemians of post-war Paris, Alix created original, handmade garments that reflected her unique vision.

Formally launched in London in 2012, ALIX OF BOHEMIA gained immediate traction as admirers began purchasing her jackets directly off her back. Over the next six years, Alix honed her craft, designing and tailoring over 2,500 bespoke, one-of-a-kind pieces by hand.

In 2018, staying true to her hand-focused philosophy, Alix began designing seasonal collections that honor traditional production techniques. Each piece showcases hand embroidery, hand weaving, hand quilting, and hand printing, with artisans from India to Guatemala, Italy to the United States contributing to the collections. Alix only uses natural fibers, so garments are naturally biodegradable and improve over time, with every wear and every wash, much like a pair of well-loved jeans.

Born in New York to a family of textile makers and artists, Alix now runs ALIX OF BOHEMIA alongside her partner, Sebastian. Together, they design each collection in their New York studio, placing a strong emphasis on creativity and artisanal hand processes. ALIX OF BOHEMIA is a tapestry of stories, craftsmanship, and a deep respect for the artistic heritage that continues to inspire Alix's timeless creations.

Second Nature explores a modern City Safari through the women of New York who have made personal style instinctive. Women who move through the world with confidence, independence, and curiosity. Elegance is not something that is performed, it is something that is lived. Power is worn with ease. Getting dressed becomes an act of self-composition, a daily language through which identity and presence are quietly expressed.

I have always been fascinated by exotic animals. Those early obsessions never left me, and evolved into a lifelong relationship with animal print and pattern as a form of self expression. In this collection, those references appear through hand worked embroideries and layered prints that feel instinctive rather than literal.

FW26 is about dressing as preparation for adventure. I approach design the way I prepare for a journey, imagining where these clothes will travel, what they will witness, and how they will live in a woman’s wardrobe over time. Every piece is made to feel ready for whatever lies ahead.

Composition is central to my work. This season, I focused on building rich, tactile surfaces through knitted wools, handloomed silks, handwoven wools, and soft tweeds finished with beaded appliqué. I work exclusively with natural fibers because they breathe, soften, and carry memory. Many garments are finished with ceramic buttons handmade by my mother, small details that connect the collection to family, craft, and personal history.
Informed by the fearless spirit of the 1970s and the intuitive strength of icons like Veruschka, the mood is confident and composed rather than polished. Nothing is over resolved. I am drawn to the tension between refinement and instinct, structure and freedom.
Second Nature speaks to a woman who knows herself. Her style is not constructed for approval. It has become part of her. It is second nature. She dresses for her life, her work, and her travels, carrying her experiences in what she wears. My hope is that these clothes become companions on her adventures and kept for years to come.

Alix.
